2012 Mildred Batchelder Award

This is the final post in the series covering the 2012 children's award winning books handed out by the Association for Library Service to Children, which is a division of the American Library Association.  The first three posts featured the 2012 Newbery Medal, the 2012 Caldecott Medal, and the 2012 Theodor Seuss Geisel Award.

The Mildred Batchelder Award is given to a foreign children's book that was translated and published in English during the previous year.  Mildred Batchelder served as an ambassador to children's books by making sure good books all over the world were accessible in many different languages.

This year's 2012 Batchelder Award winner is Soldier Bear written by Dutch author Bibi Dumon Tak, illustrated by Philip Hopman, translated by Laura Watkinson.

There was only one 2012 Batchelder Honors book and that was The Lily Pond written by Swedish author Annika Thor, and translated by Linda Schenck.

2012 Mildred Batchelder Award originally appeared in Books My Children Read on February 14th, 2012.
